Do you have a favourite nyonya kueh? Mine has to be colourful Kueh Lapis and the sweet Bingka Ubi. You can definitely call me a sweet tooth for sure! Desserts like Chendol and Ondeh-Ondeh cakes are some of my favourites too!
Ambling Turtle is a new peranakan-inspired café in the heart of Katong serving dishes inspired by the peranakan culture in Singapore. The café was recently opened just a few weeks ago on May 8th 2021. Featuring traditional nonya kueh and desserts, this new café specialises in fushion dishes such as Chendol waffles and Satay croissants.
The café has two-storeys, with a total of 40 seats – 15 seats on the upper floor and 25 seats on the ground floor. The interior uses wood and earth tones, with furniture made custom by WoodVibesOnly.
As you step into the café, notice the huge tree displayed in the middle of the space. Enclosed with glass windows, enjoy the natural sunlight as it shines into the café. Head up to the upper floor that is equipped with sockets and Wi-Fi. This space is perfect for those who wants a conducive space to work in.
Peranakan Inspired Menu
The café offers wide range of dishes to choose from such as Nyonya Curry Chicken, Chicken Satay and Pulled Beef Rendang. You also have the option to choose between a croissant or sourdough as an add-on.
Apart from their delicious savoury dishes, they also offer a range of desserts such as tarts, waffles, cakes and ice cream. These include their interesting flavours such as their Pulut Hitam Tart, Ondeh-Ondeh Cake and their Chendol inspired waffles, served with chendol jelly and gula melaka syrup.
Not only that, but the café also serves several beverages such as Cappuccino, Long Black and more. You can also customise your drink, having it iced, substituting dairy milk with oat milk or add an extra shot of espresso.
