Indonesian cuisine will always have a special place in my heart. As a Javanese, I am pretty fussy when it comes to Indonesian and Java food. My criteria for delicious Indonesia food is the spice level. I grew up loving spicy food, so does my other family members. I started eating spicy at a very young age and a day never goes by without the use of chili in my home.

One of my family’s favourite dish is Nasi Ayam Penyet. This Indonesian dish comes with a serving of rice, fried chicken, fried tofu, tempeh and most importantly, the spicy sambal. The word penyet mean to press or push. This refers to the preparation method in which the fried chicken is pressed with a pestle, making the meat more tender.

It is pretty easy to search for this delicious dish here in Singapore. Let us look at some of the best Nasi Ayam Penyet you can find and indulge in on your next cheat day!

Uncle Penyet

One of the most common Nasi Ayam Penyet in Singapore has got to be the one by Uncle Penyet. Uncle Penyet started its business in 2005 with the motto of ‘Serving you nothing but delicious yet affordable Indonesian Fusion food’.
